Montessori At Home: Alphabet Salt Tray

“What we call education of the senses is in reality an aid to the construction of intelligence.” – Maria Montessori

A child experiences the greatest amount of brain development from zero to six. Children learn and retain information best when they are using their senses to touch, smell, hear, taste, and see the things around them. Sensorial activities do just that by helping the child sort out the many varied impressions given by the senses. While sensorial learning is a key part of the Montessori curriculum, incorporating these activities at home help extend the learning environment. The alphabet salt tray is great activity that allows children to practice writing letters and then smooth it out to start over.
